Mr. Heinz Schernikau is the founder and Chairman of HMS. The company is organized as a joint stock company and is majority-owned by the Schernikau family.

HMS Bergbau AG has been operating since 1995 and is located in Berlin. HMS is focused on the global trade in coal products. Furthermore, the company participates in selected international coal and energy projects.

HMS Niwka Coal Production Sp. z o.o. is a 100 percent subsidiary of HMS Bergbau AG based in Katowice, Poland. HMS Niwka develops projects to produce steam coal from own resources in Poland.

HMS Bergbau AG owns 51% of HMS Bergbau AG Oil & Gas Division. KNK Carbo Store GmbH & Co. KG owns a 49% shareholding in HMS Oil & Gas. KNK is a company that is owned by Stadtwerke Bad Vilbel and "Wirtschaftliche Vereinigung". The purpose of HMS Oil & Gas is to economically store underground CO2 (CCS - Carbon Capture and Storage) that is captured from energetic use of fossils such as coal. Geological structures in the north of Germany are currently being explored by the company.

PT. HMS Bergbau Indonesia is a 100 percent subsidiary of HMS Bergbau AG based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Die HMS Indonesia operates a commodities bulk port in Kalimantan and develops projects to produce steam coal from own resources. Furthermore, HMS Indonesia pursues steam coal trade operations in the Asian-Pacific market.

HMS Bergbau AG also participates in Energy and Coal-related projects in Germany, Poland and Russia.
